How much resistance do you need with Trispark?

Trispark says you must run resistance plug caps. My go to plug is the NGK BPR8ES, no longer available in a non resistor version. Do I need both or will the resistor plug do the job?

I beleive TS recommends 5k Ohm per side, so thats resistor plugs OR resistor caps.
That said, Greg Marsh has stated previously he's run with 10k Ohms per side on a Trispark without issue. I've also run fine with 10k per side on my lowly Wassell (boyer-like) EI, though not digital so resistance not needed.

I'm not exactly sure why most suggest running no more than 5k. Might be from having less powerful coils than modern bikes, which run at least 10k per cylinder (with more resistence from suppression cables). With more high tech, ECUs comes the need for better interference suppression.

I am running the NGK Iridium version of this plug, with a Trispark, right now - runs great! No issues.

NGK BPR7ES for years . ..... Non resistor cap ......No issues and easy to find where ever you go

The "Correct Answer" is resistor plugs or resistor wires (or caps). I have run: neither, plugs, wires, both and all "worked".

Neither: Slightly "hotter" spark, higher electrical noise
Plugs: Recommended
Wires (or caps): Recommended
Both: Slightly "colder" spark, lower electrical noise

Generally speaking, AFAIK, ~5k ohms is what the plugs or wires provide.

But Greg, what about resister plugs, wires, and caps?

What then???? Curious minds are curious

FWIW, i've run straight copper core plugs, and slightly resistive wires and it seemed to run OK. the wires were about a foot long, and ohm'd out at around 1K. right now, i'm running non-resistive packard 440 wire and 5K champion plugs. no issues....

Tri-Spark recommend 5K resistor caps OR 5K plugs, and specify NOT both.

They also recommend copper core HT leads.

Am I missing something here? Why not just follow their advice?

Because maybe you have brand new resister plugs and brand new resister leads (but not caps, at least i think). Shall they be trashed? Or is it ok?

Send/bring it all to me and I'll see what you actually have. I seriously doubt that you have resistor "leads". Generally, unless factory molded and for cars you won't find such a thing. If you did find resistor wire - it would be ohms/foot and today that would be 10k-12k/foot - way too much for our coils with resistor plugs as well. Modern cars ignition coils produce up to about 45kv - our coils produce MUCH less. Even car coils from the same era as our bikes produced higher voltages than ours - that's why many cars specified 0.035" gap and we're more like 0.025".

OP a little late chiming back in. Since the resistor plugs are easily found and don't require cutting my existing leads that's what it will be. Thanks to all who replied.

...and come to that, just WHO are you?
Why I never.....harumph
I use 5k caps stock prugs and copper wire.
...read it in the instructions. :-)

What are "stock prugs" ?
Some sort of OXO cube?
