This has been asked before, but there doesn't seem to be any clear answer. A recent article in Octane Magazine suggested that the new factory had built 6000 units to date. This seems quite a bit higher than previous estimates I've read. A common consensus seems to be that around 80% are exported. In the UK, according to 'How Many Left' website, which uses DVLA data, there are apparently registered and SORN'd, ('off road' at the time), 234 Commandos of all flavours and 152 Dommies. Allowing for a certain number to be unregistered/in collections, let's assume the total in UK is around 450. This would mean the total built would be no more than 2500. That seems quite low.... Except, while I was at the factory last year, they suggested that they were building around 10 bikes per week, say 500 per year. We are aware that at the beginning they were building less than this, 'till production issues were sorted, so it could well be around the 2500 mark. It's not really important, but it would be nice to know how 'special' we all are and how many people worldwide have exquisite taste in motorcycles, impeccable judgment and a true understanding of motoring art, . (Or just suckers for a pretty face....).
