Anyone besides me experiment with how long a Cdo continues to run while completely on its side? They do stall out pretty fast when completely upside down though. Longest almost full sideways was road ice grit take down while going straight and easy 35 mph, Trixie slide out from under so fast I was wondering a few seconds what the sparks were from ahead of me then watched her slide 40 yd to side of hwy and still idling till I held kill button. You can not put a Cdo fully on its side on pavement, stuff must break off or dig into the ground to get full flattened horizontal tests.

Anyone with any sense will avoid this thread, completely. !!

Sorry Steve, couldn't resist...

The mere fact that it'll run whilst on its side is pretty amazing; more than once, my B50MX laid in the dirt and did its rendition of a head-shot rabbit, but it died before I could get to it. I always wondered how that thing could do that, in light of the fact that it was being fed by an Amal. Hey, should we be mounting our Amals sideways for better metering?
Actually, the first thing that entered my mind at the start of this thread is "Why do we care?" It's not a realm of street bike "operation" that I care to dwell upon.

Alrighty hippies and hillbilly's are the same thing for the same reasons I found out, though the hiilbilly's been at it rather longer. Lit out late afternoon to retrieve 5 gal plastic gas can I used to pay back some running on empty karma. Got ~ a mile away on storm textured surface as deep dusk set in... tires skip - snatching and shadows with unseen deer leaping out got to me, I tucked tail and creeped back home - before testing slapped down sideways running again, when it stuck me, kill cords are a good id for life in the rough lanes. Come on out and expand your sense of motorcycle landings and why so many teeth missing.

A week ago Trixie ran on her side and a bit beyond leaving some trailer trash friends, after a nip and a toke, started the timid steep climb out to road grade but rear tire spun on lip of a tire deep rut, but handle bar and rear set peg protected paint and levers so was able to tip her back up d/t the slope helping w/o having to re start : ) The snort and the smoke helped to take the routine downing in stride. Trixie had ends of both new bar grips removed over 2 yrs ago, hm might have to tip her over on purpose to shake The Gravel out again.

This is part of Ricochet Rabbit Riding Ranch and Rifle Range practice for the real world...

At RRRRR you'll learn not to get forward on bike or stick anything out, but ok for timid beginners...

Truth enough DogT, sometimes mine just don't die even with kill held a bit too short, like d/t injury or bike on top to hold or even reach button or key while other times it dies on the impact thud on ground or me. These are low-ish speed crashes 35 mph or way less. Just a side line issue that might not occur to others enough to notice.

I am sure that you, and most others, realize you require "special needs" equipment for your riding activities which is beyond the scope of the "norm". As members of the forum, we are inclined to indulge and appease. Rock on good neighbor.

pvisseriii ya should know your brain blurring handle rhymes with misserii in my scrambled connections. [only needed spell check 3x's in this sentence]. I assume most can remember and count on one hand the times they went down and get zings when passing that place again. I my case its so many places and times I can't remember all of them last decade and most my paths are a string of events to spike fear in me. Two days ago I was either too stoned or not stoned enough - so flash back on events came so many so jumbled I couldn't take being in such a clear rational mental state on a motorcycle, so tucked tail and creepped home, leaving me w/o a gas can on hand so vulnerable to not enough gas at home to make it to gas station. I was able to ride yesterday by myself. I think you and me are all crazy as lunatics to even think about riding and what it exposes us too.

Poor Trixie is not protected in any way but no signals to remove and mirrors tucked under bars within bar end impacts. I'll be removing bar end bumpers off SuVee for Trixie -as SV is down for the count after lending to a friend, whoose girl friend backed into it and then he lost the key... that was soon after I'd finally gotten SuVee recovered from goat killing that left her runing on her side on top of me - but at least Suzuki had wisdom to fit a on/off toggle kill instead of a hold and hold and hold momentary Norton kill. I've four $250 non DOT pure race tires on hand for SuVee, about 5 yr now, expecting to have used them up 4 yr ago, but realized if I'm going to get it with boots on, might as well be on a Commando. Once Peel going with crash cage I doubt I'll have much use for a clunker sloppy vulnerable bike that can't take a deer strike or run off the road dodge in stride.

On my brothers speedway sidecars we use a lanyard connected from rider's right wrist to a cutout. Saves having a conrod poking out of the motor after it has gone on full scream.

Trixie is mere factory Combat and a delight to ride but too dam vunerable and too dam dangerous to take much thrills on - so her days are limited and not worth fitting a kill cord but Ms Peel sure will be. I've been lightening struck on Peel and do not see pavement riding as any challenge anymore to avoid crashing - just smart enough all the time to be out of the way of hazards ahead of time in public. Peel's oil and and fuel systems made to take side ways a time w/o loosing much to matter. I let go of bars too much to want a cord on sleeve and stand on pegs full upright often, so think best place is a clip on my crotch area with a 2 ft cord. I used to run small hydro plane boats which had kill cords that pulled a card of plastic out of jaws of deep sea out rigger clips to short 2 toke ignitions but in Peel will pull plug on power to ignition.

One stunt i want to learn on Peel is having her runing laid down on tarmac and nail throttle to swing her round and up right with me straddling her or just do smoking doughnuts pivoting on crash cage with me on top. Some moderns oil starve when standing on rear or on nose or upside down, not Ms Peel.

While the bike is going around in circles, the fuel level in the carburettors should be OK due to centripetal force.

Duh yep Alan but when playing that low over its highly likely to end up runing in place side ways for a time, so I can jerk off my crotch cord to kill engine, as going that low down its highly likely bike will end up on you instead of thrown clear. What does remain as an unusual fueling issue to explore is how long will our engines run in free flight zero gravity?

Zero gravity! I think I see now. It's so obvious. You want to compete in the annual "Drive Your Vintage Bike Off the Grand Canyon" event and comfortably drive off without having to restart after you hit. You need to speak with comnoz about FI. Or maybe throber, remember him?

yes!

now that would be really cool, not to mention showing up those "moderns"!

I have to say Steve, that I too have always secretly wanted to rip off one side of my Norton while watching it grind in circles on the asphalt!

Nice to know that you and I see things the same way! SO cool!

nice troll, must be bored in Arkansas there today?

I once locked the front brake on my Triumph at about 90MPH during a race, and chucked it down onto the non-skid. It made a lovely screeching noise as it slid along on its side while I rolled every inch of the way.

Ugh 1up', I've already torn off regular Commando tanks and side covers and hope to never do that again on a regular Commando so Peel is constructed to take it. I'm really having to restrain myself on my factory Combat as every time I get to thinking its not much different than Peel set up, I crash or get stuck and need pulling out of trouble. Phase 3 & 4 on Peel are exactly what ya see stunt riders doing drifting sharp corners - just Peel liked doing it over 50 and would lift front in the harsh turns like the elite modern racers do, hehe in special places. I've done the slower crossed up stunt-supermotard parking lot style on my SV650 on race rubber a few times, so got a feel for it though not confident skill to show off yet. Depressing reading reflex poopooing against a Norton-ish Commando doing similar stuff to moderns in everything but full stoppies or 180+ mph top outs.

Alan post truamatic flash backs take me about 3 yrs to not cry out in startle response reviewing them while drifting to sleep or unintended Gravel drifting. i want to push my envelope as well and Peel. There's a common saying among water and snow skiers, if ya ain't falling ya ain't trying...

My career is in aging and injury recovery so am pleased I'm stronger more flexable with more endurance, labor and cold/heat wise than I've ever been and maybe smarter too, definitely way ahead of when broke neck and major limb joints from deer strike and 120 mph modern on my head. My fast fun just begins when bike is on delicate edge of balanced limits of lean and power and traction, then input controls reverse action effects and survival instincts are counterproductive and human reactions not fast or powerful enough I just relax tucked tight to rear as I can and let excess power and momentum workthe crashes aoutomatically.

well Steve, I know you don't like to talk about yourself but will you be able to post a video of your Norton spinning in circles being ripped up by asphalt while its motor runs long enough for you to claim that you have shown the "moderns" that Aunty Peel has superior oil flow?

really, you should have your own sub forum here!

nah, you are far to humble for that
