uhhhh, it was a rhetorical question....

I pulled this out today.....

this would explain the extra vibrations...

I will going to the MkIII conversion now for sure.

What do you mean? Those look absolutely fine to me.

Could use a little grease maybe.

I'm sure there's a way of reusing it....................I just can't quite work it out how :lol: :lol:
 
Just pack it with silicone, let it dry and it should be as good as new ;-)

2ents here..
The only thing I can't really tell from your photo is if the metal sleeves are still centered in the rubber (upper right). When I tore mine apart they had migrated a good 1/4" to one side, no doubt from the weight sitting on them for 30 years. I went with the vernier type anyway so I didn't spend much time on the implications of the "wandering" but didn't look good to me!

they were sagging like yours....also about a 1/4 inch.

After all the local hardware store.. not to mention the budget multi store ~ have a multitude of selastic and sealant product that will harden nicely as a supplement rubber ` ~

Surely be good for ~ hmm a few hundred kilometres... hehehe!!

But hey ~ I fitted the stainless kit on mine in 1994 ~ been fine ever since ~
