Having had a good look at the structural nature of the tail unit, I suspect just a carbon cover on the tail.

The 961 has gotta be pretty low volume in Japan, so quite surprised if there’s much of a market; there doesn’t seem to be much marketing effort for overseas sales. I’ll contact them and provide the feedback - ya know, for the carbon fetishists amongst us!!:oops:

I will if I get the opportunity BT. Although not very popular with our vintage Commando friends above, I like the aggressive dual Dommie-like exhaust look (others have fitted them to the 961) and certainly the sound; with baffles.

Autoprestige also produced a shortened rear frame section, so they’re having specific accessories/ components built - not just bolting bits on from eBay.

The work looks quality, but this is probably 12 months+ old - they may have moved on. Although they will doubtless be aware of the Birmingham 961.

Not sure why BT - it’d be expensive, but I reckon most professional motorcycle exhaust manufacturers could construct those; with access to the bike that is. Or am I missing something?

Wouldn’t you only need the cross-over and rear end?

Those look like standard long radius mandrel bends , and a merge collector, shouldn't be too hard to tack up , you can buy small rolls of .80 mm, .032" stainless mig wire , hire a small bottle of argon , use it for tacking it all together, with a mig, a cheap linisher is good to true your bend cuts , two flanges for the ports , best to leave pipe recessed 1.5 mm to put full weld around that inner flange, get a proper tig welder to back purge, best for stopping cracks , inside weld smooth , it's good that it's in two halfs , buy the merge collector.

What I found on line is a small displacement motorcycle for the Indian market and no pictures . So , I suppose not a bike I would want .
 
The Japanese, Germans and Italians were Australia's enemies during WW2, I think Australia would now do better by joining them in a cooperative partnership, than by joining AUKUS. In life, our achievements are only limited by our mindsets. Quality and good design are important.
Historically, we could never do that, but now most of our veteran WW2 soldiers have died.

To put this thread to bed - finally managed to get a response from the mysterious AutoPrestige out of Japan.

I was asking for availability/price for the 961 carbon single seat unit and carbon airbox mainly - plus high level exhaust (mostly out of curiosity). The quality looked excellent.

Waaaaay too slow, they have clearly moved on to other things; worth a try. It appears though, Stu is even famous in the ‘land of the rising sun’😄!

(For your reference)
Dominator normal exhaust: 94dB/3500rpm
Cafe Racer normal exhaust: 92dB/3500rpm

Measured by the Japanese standard which is 45 dgrees and 50 cm behind the exhaust tip. Please see attached picture.
We are able to make it less loud if you like.

You might need to adjust the stay since there will be a individual difference.

If you want us to make a quote, please send us more details of your vehicle such as model year, what 961 you have and so on.

[with the catalyzer]

If it passes under the frame like "with the catalyzer" - ground clearance will be the same as "with the catalyzer" or a little bit narrower (lower position).

Thanks sdonders, interesting! Expensive, but to be expected I guess for a full custom built exhaust system. That’s around the cost of an aftermarket titanium system for the high end Ducati’s. My guess is it’d be possible to get the mufflers only manufactured in-country.

The carbon single seat rear end is different - I approached a local firm to manufacture one for my dual seat CR - that’s before I removed it and saw just how structural and substantial the whole rear seat unit is, with insert screwed mounts and a relatively complex configuration. Decided to keep my eyes open for a standard single seat unit, which I prefer to the dual unit. Already have the single seat pad. 👍

Think the below may just be a cover anyway. Noting the split seat pad.
