I've made some visual progress and thought i'd show how she's looking. LOTS more work to do, as I'm learning and relearning as I go.
I'm so nervous about everything at this point, especially as I get closer to trying to start her up. The possibility of severe dissapointment and confusion is looming in the air =P
This is what she looked like the night I brought her home. Buddy snapped it before unloading. Sure glad he did. My phone and camera batteries were dead, and rather than charge up for some "befores", I started tearing down. Sadly, this is all I got.
The fireflake blue/silver paint doesn't show off well in the crummy iPhone pics, but Brent at Vintage Vendor did a smashing job.
The major work consisted of a head rebuild and cylinder bore/pistons. Also replaced my severely corroded amals with a flatside mikuni, fitted a Tri-Spark EI, crafted a wiring harness (well...2 actually), bought exhaust, painted the frame, powdercoated stuff, etc and so forth - and polished things up just enough to not look terrible. I just don't have the patience to go for the mirror finish.
I'm considering removing the fairing mount and clipons to make that a winter project. Still need to fabricate a gauge mount and shim/properly adjust the clipons. Besides, the halo headlight looks pretty darn cool.
The list of to-dos is pretty long still, and includes (but certainly not limited to):
New tires
Fix a couple stripped threads in the covers
Missing a pinch bolt for the lower triple clamp
Pull and clean the clutch plates
Fill back up the fluids and kick 'er til she roars to life
and much much more.
Definitely not perfect, but I can sit and stare for hours.
