I lost my keys the other day at lunch on a ride and realized I needed to know a way to "straight wire" the bike in emergency. I finally found the keys, but I still want to know how to start it without a key.

I'm thinking I could make a wire that will plug into the "shaver outlet" 12v neg and a clip on the other end for the coil. I would disconnect the WB wire from the coil and clip on the jumper. Will this do it?

My setup is TriSpark, single 12v coil, no ballast, etc.
If not, what can I do to get spark in emergency?

Thanks,
Jaydee

I don't know about hot wiring but you could put a spare key in your headlight shell.

Jaydee, I always carry a length of wire suitable to connect direct to the negative battery terminal and also
direct to my Trispark live juice wire----hot wire

in fact I used this successfully two weeks ago when I suddenly lost all power and glided to a stop.
Hook up my wire and on the way again in minutes.

The problem, as usual, is that the normal power source has too many failure points along the way to the Trispark, going into and out of the keyed ignition and then picking up a live wire to the kill button and then to the Trispark.

In fact I got so tired of worried about losing power again that I went to Radio Shack and got a cheap on off toggle swith and zip tied it to the frame right above the keyed ignition.

Now the ignition is used only to turn on the lights as I have a wire from the negative batter to the toggle switch and then straight to the Trispark with nothing in between, much more peace of mind when riding.

If you want to use your accessory outlet for hot wiring your motorcycle, all you need to do is have a wire connect to the negative terminal of the accessory outlet and then tap into any white wire within the motorcycle's wiring harness. Instead of using the accessory outlet you can connect a wire directly to the negative terminal of the battery or anywhere a brown/blue wire terminates. An example would be hooking up to the negative terminal of the battery and then tapping into the turn signal flasher where the white wires are plugged.

Of course your headlights won't turn on but that will get you home. I also like the hiding the key idea!

It's no big deal hot wiring a MK3, heck, you can see the bottom of the ignition switch!

I think that since the white wires are mostly related to lights, signals, etc the key has to be on to tap into them effectively. But if no key, then maybe they won't work as a "hot wire". Right?
I'm still thinking straight to the coil is best and right there where I can see it without removing anything. Am I right? I don't want to fry my TriSpark experimenting.

All electrical components that are hooked to the white wires are hooked up parallel to each other. You are right that the brake light, turn signals, horn, warning light, etc. are hooked to the white wires. The power to your ignition system is also hooked up using the white wire. It doesn't matter where the battery voltage is applied to the white wires. They will all be hot once your battery wire is hooked up. Try temporarily taking a length of wire and plugging it into your accessory outlet (brown/blue wire) then tapping into your rear brake switch white wire. That wire should only be about a foot long. Your motorcycle should start right up using your starter button and everything. Basically you are just bypassing the ignition switch, that's all. You can hook up anywhere there is a white wire as previously stated - whatever is most convenient for you as long as you tap into a white wire.

According to a Tri -Spark (positive earth) diagram I found online, you can go directly to the ignition system module by unplugging the white/yellow wire from your kill switch and plug your hot jumper wire from your battery source (i.e. accessory outlet) to the black/yellow wire that runs down to the ignition module within the timing cover. You do not hook directly to any of the spark coils at all.
