Im curious, how was your mpg?

Generally 45 to 55 depending on the wind and speed and the fuel.

When I ran out of gas I had a strong headwind and only made it 290 miles on 6.5 gallons. Speed was ~85 on that stretch. 10 percent alcohol.

I don't usually get worried until I see 300 miles on a tank.
I guess I am going to have to set the fuel warning in my GPS back to 250 miles.

The only work I had to do was to tape a piece of heater hose across the top of the windshield to stop the severe wind noise that started when I shortened the windshield one inch. It looked like hell but it worked great.

Care to elaborate on that (got a pic)? I have a windscreen that makes a lot of noise and I'd be interested in what might be done to cure that.

Here is what I did. After the first half day of riding I decided if I didn't do something I was going to be deaf soon -even with earplugs.
It made a huge difference.
I will probably install a Laminar Lip [or similar] for a more permanent solution.

I really need to find some sort of small faring to help buck these ferocious coastal breezes. My windshield on the wing always had that howling blast coming over the top, and in all honesty it never occurred to me to attempt a disrupter as such to alleviate the problem. I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer but I can see where that would create quite a disturbance in the flow over the top of the screen.
Now to sort out an unobtrusive but functional faring for my Norton that doesn't upset my stomach. Not Dunstall, not touring, not café, but something else. Something which doesn't detract from what it is.

Yep... that's ugly. You already have a rounded edge on your screen - that doesn't do anything?

I put a Memphis Shades universal windscreen on my Norton for about 2 days... the wind noise was unbearable. Looked good though:

Thanks for the link - I'll look to see if maybe they have a solution that'll work for me.

I'm not sure if this company is still in business or not but I had one of their wind screen on a Ducati Darmah and it worked very well although I never went more than 70 with it. It was fairly large and I recall side winds were a bit of a problem.
I see they do make an edging for fairings that may suit your needs https://saeng.com/product/gen-4-edging-noise-turbulence-reduction/ although seem to be a bit pricey. I would certainly want some feedback before I bought it.

Excellent results. Should be good for at least another 100,000 miles, right?

Ken

Well, it doesn't look like I will have any more seizure problems, but how long they wear will be another story.
I fit them at .004 but since they are so short it won't take much wear before I get contact between the land above the top ring and the bore. They were originally intended to be fit at .001 in a water cooled aluminum barrel motor. After upper land contact they will go quick.
I may go ahead and pull the barrel and get it Nickasil coated to get as much life as I can from it.

Who knows....

Any idea where they are? Contact info has no address or phone number.

Thanks for that. I actually have some Mercedes door beading that looks very similar. I might try it first.
I have ridden a bike with the Laminar Flow thing installed. It worked really great.
I have another windshield for my bike with a crack about halfway down one side. I may cut it into something like Laminar Flow does with a gap that allows air between the two shields. That seems to be the hot ticket.

To all, I have no direct knowledge of that compny and a search of forums gives a very mixed assortment of reviews. This may be a rip off copy of the SAENG original product. The original SAENG company was reputable but that was probably more than 20 years ago when I dealt with them.
Like I say you really have to be careful these days with so many scams and crooks. Strange they don't show an address or phone number.
You're right Jim it looks like an off the shelf weatherstripping.

Well, Here’s hoping the relevant issues on this post can stay..
