Hemmings 6 speed gearbox

Has anybody any information about how to strip a hemmings 6 speed box or who to contact who would know?
 
Mick was a Quaife dealer so likely it's a Quaife designed box.

 
Try Patrick at Works Racing. I heard he bought Micks gearbox stock, but I’m not sure.

Hi. spoke to Patrick this morning. he has taken over the MH gearbox business,he has some spares and is hoping to be in a position to supply complete boxes in the future. Quaife also have a limited stock of spares. I hope between them they can supply my needs. Patrick reckons the hemmings box is easier to strip than the std box; following some advice from patrick I have now got it apart but Its not to obvious. wish me luck.

That bodes well, it would be great if Patrick succeeds in setting up as Mr Quaife !

I think Bruce Verdon said his TTI gearboxes are copies of Quaifes. I have had my 6 speed TTI apart - it is easier than a 4 speed Norton box. I suggest some people create their own hurdles. Most of what I have learned in my life, has been because I actually did things instead of worrying about nothing. Motorcycles were not made by Superman, or even Maxwell Smart, Pick a nice clean place to pull it apart.
 
It would be interesting to hear your impressions of a 6 speed street Commando if that's what you plan. I believe it was meant for race and has no kick start capability, so would need estart. I have Quaife 5 speeds and that was a worthwhile upgrade from pre MK3 4 speed trans with early 2nd gear.
 
As far as performance is concerned, close ratio gears allow the rider to use the motor properly. I have only raced in later years using 4 speed close boxes. With my 500cc Triton, I never lowered the overall gearing, except on one occasion when I was frustrated. I have never had close ratios on a road bike. I would probably either hit a car or get booked. I would dearly love to race my Seeley 850 with the 6 speed TTI box, with the 4 speed Manx cluster in the Norton box, it was excellent everywhere except in a clutch start - a bit too slow at the beginning of races. Modern motorcycles usually have 6 speed gearboxes, they are probably too fast. Is riding on public roads about speed ? If your mates all ride old British bikes, you might make them look silly.
