Help about «Sorn»

In Britain: Statutory Off Road Notice.

Meaningless paperwork that you have to apply for when your vehicle is not in use on the road. You get fined when you forget to renew the SORN every year.

Thankfully, they've changed it now so that once you've applied for SORN it stays that way until you retax it. Don't have to apply for it each year. I agree with the meaningless bit though, it's just petty bureaucracy to trip people up.

But I don't think it's happened yet, as far as I know (I got a SORN reminder this month "Your tax disc/SORN runs out on 31 October 2013").

[Edit]The change to the SORN regs. begins December, apparently.

Sadly that is not true, if you took a vehicle off road say over ten years ago you may not get any reminders, but if you took it off road last year , you will continue to get reminders every year.

Its still annual, just got mine, and if you buy a bike that is sorned then that stops as owner is changed and you need to apply for a new sorn.

Was sure I'd read in VMCC magazine, or somewhere, that it's changed to continuous SORN once declared, rather than keep renewing it. Can't find anything online so maybe I dreamed it.

Was certainly muted that it would be continuous , but i don't think its happened yet :(

In have got several bikes sorn, and with the old ones that have not been taxed in the last 15 years I do not get a reminder, but these still have the old blue V5.
The others I get a reminder every year.

Pre 1998 i think was the date , anything not taxed before that , didn't have to comply with sorn :)
