My bike has a 5inch Lucas headlight the ears on the fork seem to have been for the wider 7 inch light, but the instruments seem like they were for the smaller light ,looks like they will not clear a 7 inch light does anyone know if the hi rider had different instrument housings than the roadster ??? Does anyone have an old 7in assembly ? Prices on eBay are ridiculously expensive or are the ears on the fork different for the roadster and hi rider ????

They are the same.
You haven't said which 'year' model it is, as there's a difference between the '68 - '72 polished alloy instrument housings and the '73-on deeper black housings, however, both types fit Roadsters and Hi-Riders.

They're also the same parts, 06-2028 & 06-2029 (assuming you have the original items in both cases?) however, wider 06-2300 spacers should be used with the smaller headlamp.
Also check that the brackets are not fitted on the wrong side (so both are upside down) which raises the headlamp position slightly.
06-2300

Use 06-2035 spacers for 7" headlamp.

Thanx bike is 74 does anybody have a cheap 7 inch headlights assembly ? Battered up one OK prices on eBay are crazy ?

not sure of your location Dave .... I'm sure there are lots out there , the one I have ( bucket and bent rim ) is dented and full of rust holes , that why I have it on the shelf .... I replaced it with an aftermarket with no holes for warning lights .... I got it from britcycle supply here in NS .... I actually like the cleaner look more than the original plus less wire hanging about inside ... unless you are looking to keep original I'll bet you can get a after market one for a reasonable price ....
