I have a new Silverstar in a box, and just can't seem to figure out how to use the wire retaining clips to mount it. :oops: Anyone got a picture of how those go in when using a sealed beam that doesn't have retaining tabs?
 
I see that Hella has a semi-sealed unit that takes a hallogen bulb. Number 1058 is the 7-inch. I am having a little trouble pulling up exact info on it. Anybody have experience with these? My experience is that Hella is high quality stuff but some of their bulbs are proprietary.

It is fun to laugh about Lucas products, but actually they are good. They last a long time. Many old British machines have their original alternator, Zener, rectifier and coils as well as some switches. Some people are still using mags that were made in the 60s. Most of the problems are caused by bad wires and connections. The original 180 or 190 watt alternators are not powerfull enough to run a 55 watt bulb. Balanced charging does not occur until about 3000 RPM even with the original dim headlights. You can run a 27 or 35 watt halogen bulb as originally designed. If you want to be brighter you will need to switch to a 250 watt 3 phase alternator.
 
Hello Dave, I was looking at the photo of your headlight and I noticed your coil assembly, It looks very neat and tidy (if I'm honest I felt a bit uncomfortable typing that) mine on the other hand looks dreadful. Could you post a few photos of it and let me know what you've done to improve on the original layout?
