I rewired my headlight circuit so that I could run a small halogen pilot bulb as a daytime running light. Now that I have LEDs I want to put it back to stock. How do the ignition switch and 2 position headlamp switch play together? And does the pilot lamp come on in the parking mode?

Pilot, tail and instruments are fed from master switch terminal 3 by brown/green (NG) so all are ON when the key is turned to 'Ignition and Lights' or 'Parking Lights'.

The headlamp two-position switch selects main headlamp ON/OFF when the master switch is at 'Ignition and Lights' but should not select main headlamp ON when at 'Parking Lights' Edit: (Later 4 terminal master switch).

With the stock configuration on my 73 850 roadster, the pilot light comes on in parking mode. The 2 position headlight switch on the headlight shell gets power when the lights position # 3 is used on the ignition switch, as well as the dip switch on the handlebars.

Then what's the purpose of the 2 position switch? Why would someone select ignition and lights but turn the headlamp off?

There's nothing particularly unusual about it as Japanese, German, etc. bikes generally had a 'pilot' (and tail) lighting switch position.
