Hello, my first post. My son and I are rescuing a '75 MkIIa 850. The headlamp spacers that we removed from the bike are 7/16 hole dia and 7/16 long (thick). I ordered a 062035 from Norvil and it is 7/16 hole dia and 5/16 long (thick). I do not see the 5/16 length anywhere in this thread. Very confused. I guess we will assess them when we re-assemble the headlamp area.

Taking on the project with your son, excellent and good on you dad!

Tried to measure mine but assembled there is no access.

Should look like this

The 75 is probably the year the bike was sold, it's actually a 74 if its a MK2a and there are lots of changes to the 75 MK3 so best to refer to it as being a 74 to save confusion.

This is the 75 MK3 spacer which looks longer

Now they did do a number of running changes during the 74 model year and fitted some 75 parts before the 75 started where it made no difference or very little, so yours could be a late 74 model year with 75 spacers.

Yes, so the ones fitted originaly are correct (Edit:06-2035).

However, the replacements Saber received are shorter (5/16").

Even though there was a change of spacer part number for the Mk3 there seems to be no reason why the Mk3 spacers should be any longer than the previous items. Substantially longer spacers like the one in the above photo would noticably splay the headlight ears and put the mountings Edit: out of alignment, or at least they would on my Mk3 where 7/16" seems to be the ideal spacer width.

Unless someone has measured a current 06-0300 from Andover who have all the original drawings then it's still a guess albeit educated but from my bike the spacer could be either 5/16 or 7/16. Saber has the pics to compare, hopefully he is learning also who the good suppliers are which is the more important lesson here.

Ok

06-2035 SPACER N/A 7/16"x13/16"x7/16" HEADLAMP

From the Stainless steel database from the site that is now archived.

So it should be 7/16" wide.

I measured my 1974 Mk2a.
They are 7/16", any thicker and you would have next to no thread left on the indicator stem for engagement into the headlight (thread).
Even at 7/16" the headlight mounts are splayed outward noticeably so 5/16" would probably be a better option especially if you retain the Lucas indicators.

Thank you all for your responses. The build date of the bike is Aug 74. And my experience so far is everything is consistent with the 74 model. The original sales receipt for $1,695 says1975. We will get back in our cold garage soon to try out new and old spacers and provide our feedback.

We got the front end fixed up and all back together with the new 5/16 spacers (and new headlamp housing and brackets). The spacers are ok but I would prefer the 7/16 version as the 'ears' are nearly contacting the headlamp with the 5/16 spacers. I will attach a photo once I figure out how.
