Is there a way of snugging up the headlamp mounting ears other than taking apart the front end? I am sure the o rings are long gone.
Its surely not doing the headlamp any good. Looking for a short term solution. I will be in there to fix it right later on.
I am up to a little McGivering but dont want to hack it.

OH UGH, the rough roads here and time have beaten down the whimpy o-rings in Trixie's headlight mounts so annoying loud rattle till on pavement so just used some clear packing tape around the seams to settle it down till biting bullet on most tedious troublesome task to me on Commandos, the whole front fork assembly - brake system to electrical cobwebs. I've tried to pack RTV in with the fllmsy o-rings but it didn't last long, so best wishes to anyone trying to short cut the noise. Too easy to disturb the flimsy o-rings on re-installs so RTV, set up over night, does help. In Peel I double the 0-rings up but didn't have extra spares last time Trixie forks damaged to require more non-riding hassle I short cutted to ride but now paying for it again.

I guess we have brought up bad memories for you man.

It was 3rd week of timid operation after dark 35 mph + 35 mph deer into headlight and helmet strike that made me take Trixie yokes off and didn't have new 0-rings so tried to get old decayed ones to work as short cut to ride but it failed miserably and so far no one not even me notices the electrical tape rattle trap buffers. But shoot they are such simple things what could go wrong, ya can't just do it over again better...

Yes, when I rebuilt my 750, I couldn't find the original O rings and I had one hell of a job dealing with it with new o rings from my m o ring kit. After several goes, I left it then came back to search for the originals and found them. Made the job easier. I think flat rubber o rings would be the better choice. It amazing what you remember when someone slaps you on the cheek.

Hobot, maybe you [ or some one else ] could make some new flat type rubber rings and glue them into the recesses of the yokes with a contact cement. Might make the job easier. Someones got to come up with a better idea because I can assure you, they would have got it right back in the factory.

All the best. DERECK

ugh, I am over me head on major homestead and car events and have invented enough non Norton solutions already so hope someone else beats me too it then rubs it in nicely with specifics of what to get and do. Glad to know I get similar level of frustration as most others, excepting the blessed luck of ashman.

So its not just me. I am going to try and inject some RTV silicone top and bottom. Will see what happens. My 71 still has the Lucas light in it after all these years.
It kind of scares me

After the seemingly sensible short cut attempts fail - I had to look twice to see Trixie's black electrical tape banks at top and bottom of the quieted rattle traps. I did get headlight clips installed so removed the clear packing tape up there. Nothing on a Commando should make shaking or rattle noises but head ring and header internal blast clang. Of course we are Norton low lifes not to dive right in and work back out to perfect finish and function.

Header blast clang ? Is that what I am hearing at idle .
