Has anybody ever used one of these universal switches?

I bought one for my 850 but haven't wired it in yet. It comes with a wiring diagram so no guessing needed to hook it up.

I got one on my MK1 and it works well 'cept for the kill switch part, which when connected, without activating it, ground out the coils and the spark cut off so no start...tried another unit( and the same thing happened) I'm going to try the TRX type (same brand, K&S) soon and I"ll post on how that works...
 
I believe all the K&S switches have a push-to-close kill button. The standard Norton is wired to a push-to-open function button.

The K&S can be converted by using a SP/DT relay. Alternatively, (and the electrical experts correct me if I have this wrong) you can feed the coils from the keyswitch and use the kill button to ground the coils. What I am not clear on this method is how you do this without blowing a fuse.

Most Japanese and late European switchgear have a rotating kill switch which opens the circuit and lend themselves well to Commando application.

Relay coils usually don't draw enough current to blow the fuse. A typical miniature automotive relay draws around 30 mA. If I read you correctly, you would be energizing the relay coil from the key switch with the kill switch completing the circuit, right? Should work. If you really want to get cute you can use a DP/DT relay wired as a latching relay. That way a momentary push of the kill switch will shut the engine off. Bear in mind, you have to turn off the key to unlatch the relay. No more speed shifting with the kill switch.
 
I guess I wasn't clear in my reply, Jim.

My preferred work around would be to use a SP/DT relay that passed current to the ignition when the relay was not energized. Pressing the kill button would energize the relay coil by completing the ground side of the switching circuit and open the main circuit, killing the current to the ignition.

The second option is to feed the ignition coils by the keyswitch bypassing the Commando's normal path of battery/keyswitch/kill button/coils and then connect the kill button to ground the coil side. I am told this works, but I am more comfortable with opening the circuit to kill a battery/coil ignition rather than grounding.
 
I have used the switch and it works well.
However I find it a little fat to be used with the Magura clutch lever.
I had to source longer lever for a proper feel.

If using the Magura lever, the thinner Honda switch from CNW is a better choice. IMHO
