📣 CLASSIC NEWS ALERT

Michael Dunlop MBE + WRS 588cc Norton Rotary = A Classic TT Reunion

The most decorated rider in TT history, Michael Dunlop MBE, with 33 victories to his name, will contest this year’s Formula 1 Classic TT onboard the WizNorton WRS 588cc Norton Rotary.

The Dunlop name and the Norton Rotary are bound together in TT history. Michael’s father, Robert Dunlop, became synonymous with the British-built machine in its golden era, securing podiums in both the 1990 Formula 1 TT and 1992 Senior TT, etching both names into road racing folklore.

Its distinctive sound, unique engineering, and fighting spirit made it a firm fan favourite, and over the decades Norton has enjoyed some truly iconic TT moments. Trevor Nation tasted success on the Rotary, but arguably its finest hour came in 1992, when Steve Hislop won the Senior TT after a race-long duel with Carl Fogarty – still regarded as one of the greatest TT races of all time.

Now, Michael brings the story full circle – choosing to ride the Norton not as the obvious challenger, but because of what it represents. In a year that has seen his own road racing achievements recognised with an MBE, and one in which the Classic TT also celebrates his uncle Joey Dunlop’s achievements, contesting this machine is a nod to his family’s legacy and a chance to write a new chapter for both names on the Mountain Course.

The WizNorton team are a familiar sight in the Classic TT paddock, keeping the Rotary’s storied legacy alive year after year. Adding to the nostalgia, Trevor Nation will also take to the course onboard their Norton machine in the TT Rewind: 80s & 90s Parade Lap.

And on my birthday ! YES!

We're on our way there on Thursday. Be very interesting to see Michael on one of those bikes. They seem a very good team. They usually have a part dismantled rotary engine on show which you can spin over to see how it works. Good luck to them and him.

Apparently it's upset a few people, as they dropped their regular rider Shaun Anderson in favour of MD with only a few days notice, so he is now struggling for a ride.
