Just received my 71 project this morning .
this came out of Canada but by the free freight system it took about 3 months .
I do plan on a total rebuild this winter .
I have gathered almost all the parts I needed to replace all the bad items , rusted parts and bad chrome parts.
I hate waiting and stopping when I do these projects.
I will send the engine and transmission out .
the wheels are going out for new rims and S.S spokes . new tires , tubes .
I think I will powdercoat this frame , swingarmand some small parts .
aluminum parts will go out for polishing .
got new carbs from Marsh .
new seat .
mostly just parts replacement and assembly .
will not be origional but this is my third and I want it my way .
still need to find a painter to replicate the fireflake purple .
ready to go as soon as I get the Harley off my lift . ( I like sportsters too )
definetly open to any suggestions , ideas , knowledge ( I only think I know everything )

Here are some pics

The perfect christmas present, looking fwd to the progress shots.

the data plate isn’t he frame , it was painted over , I wiped the spray paint off with aceton , the stamped info is there.
I do have the origional title from Canada .
bill of sale , proper import papers done by customs broker .
need to a Ontario lien search paper now ?
not sure yet how to get this done ?
this bike was owned by George Harrison , I bought it for 200 dollars . Was going to be restored by origional owner for 30 years , just sat in storage , never started.

I hope to get it done my way , ride it a bit and then give it away.
been passing on a lot of stuff lately , mostly motorcycles.
more to get rid of , but enjoyed having the stuff .
but would buy another Norton project and actively looking for another one.

Data plate , matches engine package

Small headlamp so possibly a Hi-Rider* or SS originally (but has a steel Roadster tank in a previous thread which wouldn't be the original tank).

Edit: Although seems too early to have been a Hi-Rider)

Tried to get factory build data on this but they had no record of this serial number ?

Congratulations on the new project. It looks like a solid basis for a great bike. Get ready to spend.

Very strange serial number/date code combination. Would normally expect a date code around Oct 70. It must have stayed around the factory having a problem resolved or used for something special. You said owned by George Harrison - of the Beatles?

139507 Sep 70 From factory record: - Purple Roadster US - Berliner
140156 Mar 71 Yours
140915 Nov 70 From factory record: - Purple Roadster US - Berliner

Do the engine and gearbox match that serial number?

Lets the games begin.

Got it !

Looks like a solid project for 2021.

Before you powder coat the frame weld on the proper sidestand mount. Original '71 sidestand can be dangerous.
Got it !

Wish it was the beatle George , I love his stuff .
what ever is in the bag ?
it’s all the parts that came with it , but I have not opened the bag yet.
likely open next week sometime .

It has the forward crossmember frame and sealed bearing yokes that were supposed to have been introduced at serial 141783, Jan. '71.

I had this response from Andover-norton about serial number
