So I see Gerbings have a battery now for heated gear if you decide you don't want to run directly from your motorcycle. I have some older bikes that I don't want to tap in to at the moment

I have some Shorai batteries on the shelf that I no longer use and was wondering why not use one of those instead?.
I'm thinking I could insulate the terminal connections completely and put in in to the battery in to the one of the saddle bags or a tank bag. Do you think it would work?

Give it a go and let us know.

I believe this is not the use that gets the best out of a Shorai, as Glen and others have pointed out, the realistic amp hours of Shorai batteries is low, so their ability to support a constant drain like this might not be very good.

You know I remembered reading something just like you said somewhere and that's what prompted me to ask. Still both are batteries made of the same material so I'm wondering what's different ?

Good question!

I have no idea. The only way to find out is to try it out and see.

Of course, the Gerbing battery is designed to go in a jacket pocket or pouch etc. Where will you put the Shorai ?

On my Indian there's a saddle bag behind my left hip and on the other bikes I'll use a tank bag. Thing about Gerbings is that there's always plenty of wire to work with.

Depends on what your total consumption is for your heated clothing, if it exceeds the amp hour of the battery, then no it will not work, if not, then the battery drainage will be x hours.
