Gearbox Reassembly Progress and Question:

I'm having fun putting my gearbox back together. I used a roller and omitted the gaskets and after several shimming trials, I wound up with a single .010 shim and .012 final endplay. Feels good.
As I put the clutch linkage arm back in I noticed that the wheel that the lever backs up against is very tight. Should I polish the surfaces so it will turn freely? Seems like a good idea.

The bearing in the center of the wheel should be a bit proud of the wheel itself. That provides the space for the wheel to turn. Just make sure not to cinch down on the bolt & nyloc nut that goes through there - just enough to take out free play works - overtightened, the wheel is back to not freely spinning, hard to operate clutch, etc.

Be sure to install the quadrant knuckle roller before the inner case gets bolted up!

Don't scare me like that. Inner case is on and I can still put the ball in. What's the problem?

There's no problem on a MkIII as the MkIII uses a (slightly oval) ball instead of a roller. The pre-MkIII type roller must be fitted before the inner cover is replaced. I expect Bob Z. wasn't aware of the difference?

So sorry, I didn't realize the difference with the Mark 3 06-5150 roller, knuckle pin and the earlier knuckle pin roller 040078.
