Where would the gear pattern decal, which would probably have been on my bike when new, have been located?
Headlight, speedo, tank, or?
I'm thinking about refitting one, as a visual aid, as my bike collection has a variety of different gear patterns!
(RH shift: one up, three down. RH shift one down, three up. LH shift, one down, four up. LH shift, one down, five up.

On my MK3 it's stuck on the tank left hand side about half way, although I have seen them on the speedo as well 🤷‍♀️

Never had one on my 74 Commando when I brought it new, was nothing on the tank except for the Norton logo, unless the dealers took it off, if it had them on, but didn't see it when sitting in the show room same thing at the other dealership, both 74s I looked at had no gear shift patten stickers on them.

A '74 Commando shouldn't have had one as far as I know as the sticker (below) shows the Mk3 gear change pattern. I don't think the Mk2 supplement (or any other) lists one for pre-Mk3 unless somebody knows different.

My feeble memory says it was on the gas cap on my 73 Mk 1.
But if so, it must not have looked like that since a pre-MK3 is one up and three down. Not sure why a pre-MK3 would have one since the gearbox itself has the pointer to the current gear/neutral.

Like I said, ‘Feeble’. Not saying it’s so, I do remember a sticker somewhere.
I recently saw a picture of one on the headlight shell under rhe toggle switch.
Thought it looked good.

I would expect it to be a different decal to suit the reversed pedal than a change of part number which AN would normally list. 065940 doesn't appear to be available.

Google says:
"The Norton 06-5940 is a G/S pattern decal specifically designated for the Japanese market, priced at $6.25 each."
Although I can't find anyone who sells them.

If you look at picture 48 of the bike for sale in this thread, you can see the sticker in question under the warning lamps.

I think that's the picture I saw that gave me the idea. At the time I wasn't sure if it was commonly fitted there, or left to a dealer/owner to use as they pleased.

JPN 065940 appears to be similar to 063579 except it's black on white/clear. Also the change pattern is reversed (down for 1st) to suit the reversed pedal.
