I don't know what the policy is from all industrial suppliers, BUT, I encountered an unusual situation when I first sourced timed belts several years ago. Make certain to not mention that your belt is for a motorcycle. At least two of the suppliers that had previously sold me belts , refused to sell belts after their company policies changed. This was claimed to be a liability issue. I had to start buying belts for use on "agricultural pea thrashers". Belts have come a long way in the last twenty years. Belt composition and tensioning materials are much improved. All the best on your quest.

Speed Control is the behind-the-scenes player that makes the new Gates 8MGT Belts, which I have found to be far superior to standard 8M belts when running on our race bikes using HTD pulleys.

They come in 912, 960, and 1040 lengths and can be cut to any width. We get ours from a jobber - New England Belting - but they can be sourced lots of places, including Speed Control directly.

I ran into the same problem whilst trying to have some brake hoses built by a local hydraulics supply house. After being told they couldn't build them due to liability reasons, I walked out the front door, turned around and walked back in, then requested help with glycol-based hydraulic lines. The same clerk was more than happy to help me after that. You just have to know how to ask the right way.

I used to get power train components from Applied Industrial Technology. Lots of locations in the US. I would never tell the clerk it was for a motorcycle....my favorite lie was it was for an air compressor.
