A friend was playing around and opened my gas cap, points and says "is your tank cracking?"

no, the tank isnt cracking; however the caswell appears to have possibly bubbled and split. Its been in there for a few years now. Is there something I can use that will remove the caswell without melting the fiberglass (combat) so I can redo it?

instead of chasing your tail with this tank you would be better off buying a new steel one ,sorry if you dont want to hear that but that#s the best way in my opinion cheers baz

I don't think Caswell 2 part epoxy can be dissolved without destroying the fiberglass tank.
If it's just a localized crack I'd re-seal the bad area with more epoxy.
Crap, I just threw-out some leftover Caswell sealer too.

Must use heated acetone or MEK to soften Caswells and if already exposing original resin then as stated only thing left will be a softened Caswell shell with the cap still adhering. Only way is slice and dice to save or use to hole your ashes and get steel. Once solvent impregnated in resin its done for as will keep working softer and softer regardless of coatings as will tend to lift off.

+1 on the three comments above. You are engaged in a futile search for any other solution. Sorry.

I used acetone to clean and etch my fiber IS tank then many hours in sun with hair drier aimed in cap and taps removed till could not smell anything in hopes of evaporating out any ethanol/fuel molecules dissolved in resin before most of 1/4 thick Caswells turned and tumbled for 30 min to set up stiff enough to stay put to cure. If I had to save the tank Id slick open from bottom, put in sun or over on low for days, then sand insides, slather with JBW in over lapping areas a go, then roughen up the seams and JBW together permanently against even moonshine. I can garantee the fiberglass shell with break before the JBW seam lets go. Can take opportunity to beef up around the mounting areas.
