G15CS Magneto

I am seriously considering a Magneto for 1967 G15CS.

A couple of questions:

1. Will a 2702 Magneto work?
2. Do I have to change the timing cover?
3. What parts do I need to keep in order to charge the battery and for lighting?

1. I have no idea what a 2702 magneto is. Joe Hunt?
2. Unlikely if fitted in the orginal magneto's position (up to 03/1967). You need a chain sprocket of the corect size fitting the magneto shaft. It needs to align with the intermediate gear sprocket.
3. If the bike is reasonably original, it will feature an alternator outboard of the crankshaft, left side. It's designed to supply current for charging the battery and provid power for lighting (and ignition by points and coils, from 03/1967 onwards).

Commander 47; Hi! Mark here. I have a ’67 N15cs. Mags were optional on our models. I ran a mag when I raced mostly to take the rotor off of the crank but switched back to points & coils for the street. Mags are a very good proven system when in good nick. If you have the points housing that sits behind the motor, where a mag would also reside your timing cover is probably safe. I prefer the points system up graded to the later points plate which took the condensers external but made the points individually adjustable. Good news… Mag or points the stock wiring system works, assuming a stock harness. The magneto i have is from a 1967 N15CS. It is in reasonably good shape and works well.

I believe this is the K2 model? It is definitely for dual plugs.

I do have the points system, and it works. I want to try the mag though and see how dependable it is.

I'm waiting for the Joe Hunt uber-fan to chime in. My mag was shot, way too much to repair, and then wonder if it would hold up. Half the price of a mag repair for a housing and Wassell mini MKII system that has been perfect for a few years now. If the original hadn't been so tired and needed more than just a 'normal' repair, I may have kept it, but money's an object and my system works for me. Good luck!
