While tightening the banjo on the left side of the head yesterday (to the specified 15 ft-lbs) I sheared the banjo in half. Normally this wouldn't be too big a deal but I found out that the Venhill banjo ends on the lines have a bigger inner diameter than the stock factory banjo ends, which means if you try to use a standard Norton replacement banjo there's a whole lot of play between the inner diameter of the banjo end and the outer diameter of the bolt.
I talked to Fred at Old Britts and he confirmed the diameter differences, and also mentioned that Venhill no longer makes those same banjos. He's sending along their "new" version but I'll have to see whether the new one fits properly like the one that sheared.
Anyway, the he also said he's gotten other calls recently about the same shearing problem, so between that and the possibility of improper fitment with stock banjos, it's something to be aware of when buying Venhills.

He also mentioned that he doesn't torque those to 15 ft-lbs, he just snugs them up by hand and they still don't leak...

Maybe not just Venhill supplied braided oil lines that have these larger than original banjos, as I expect other St/St. versions have the modern 3/8" - 10mm size banjo fittings more commonly used for motorcycle brake and clutch lines nowadays, -with the larger shouldered bolts as my own Mick Hemmings supplied one has (can't remember if it came in a Venhill wrapping or not?).

I am also wary of using a torque wrench on many fasteners, -such as these bolts, preferring to rely on feel a lot of the time , rather than blindly following a torque figure given in a manual.
