I dropped my wife and kids off at the airport on Saturday morning for a week at the Theme Parks on the Gold Coast in Aussie.....what was I going to do all weekend...... start on my 'to do list' on the house..... yeah right.
Wheeled out the Commando and did a 120 mile round trip up the west coast thru all my favourie winding roads, stopped at a cafe and sat admiring the bike..sipping my latte ( yep not much mongrel in us bikers these days... )
On the way back a sports bike sped past on the open section of road and I thought thats the last I see of him....... was I surprised to catch him up on the 35/45/55 KMPH corners!!!!!! I was really enjoying being on his tail....then the road opened up and he was goooooooone...... ( and so would his licence if he'd been pinged)
Got home and thought , thats enough for the weekend...... then my mate who has just bought an 850 asked me to ride down for a visit, he lives in the opposite direction and once you get past the 40 kms of motorway its more winding roads.....whoo hooo. This time I took the Ducati 900 ss ie....the Terreblanche one....I enjoyed this less than usual as I am finding the older bike easier to chuck around corners.
I took my mates 850 for a ride and he rode his other bike a Guzzi Lemans 2. I could not believe how different the 850 was from the Combat....it had those awful 'cow horn' bars on it that if it was mine would be binned on day one, and a Mikuni carb. Plenty of torque but did not spin up as quick.....interesting.
I got home at around 9 pm.....knackered.
Next morning dragged out the Combat and rode back down to his place and we did another 200 miles of country roads......what a great weekend, over 500 miles of riding, less than an hour from home.
I took the car to work today.....I'd had enough riding for while....
