Fuel Tap Query

My RH fuel tap has a problem.
The retaining circlip frequently dislodges - normally while I'm cleaning and move the quadrant plate. It clips back in relatively easily but I have some uneasiness that it could dislodge while I'm riding.
My question is - should I bother getting a new circlip and see if it solves the problem or just buy a pair of BAP taps (secured by 2 screws instead of circlip)
Hopefully someone will have experienced this problem and will be able to offer wisdom.
Cheers
Rob

Rob ,only one thing that I can think of . Is the clirclip facing in the correct direction ? From what I have read about pistons gudgeon/wrist pins and circlips the sharp edge side of the clip should face the outside and away from the thrust Who knows ? It maybe that simple Cheers Ian

Apart from the above, is it the sprung sort or just the rubber insert? The fact that it goes in 'easily' (and obviously dislodges just as easily) suggests not enough pressure behind it, maybe due to worn internals perhaps? Although hard to see how a correctly sized circlip could wander, unless the groove is worn, too?
Mine is the sprung type, and has split the circlip before if not lubricated, though I now consciously push the lever in whilst turning it as well. Nothing as disconcerting as turning it and ending up with half the internals in your hand, and petrol making a bid for freedom!

Make sure the BAP type flows enough fuel. I bought some and they flowed half as much as the ones from AN when I tested.them.

Thanks Ian - yes I have checked that by changing the installed direction - no more effective.
...and yes, @EstuaryBoy, it is the sprung type - just doesn't appear to want to stay in place.

I've experienced the same thing but it was the groove not machined squarely enough to hold the circlip securely in place.
Considering what could happen then in my opinion it's better to replace it.

If you do go for baps be careful how much you tighten them
I sheared one off once
Also I have had problems with the rubber swelling up inside ,I'm guessing the baps can vary in quality?

I think there are copies about made in India, I first bought them in the 80's and they had no issues. Recent purchases have been mixed and I have also had one break off when tightening up with not much force required.

I am not against off shore products but you do have to pay the import on them.
