I just rebuilt both my front and rear hubs with new bearings etc, after I was done I noticed that in one of the three books I have it says to "put the small end in first" or down I don't remember. When talking about thar tube spacer that you push aside to get the bearing out. I am puzzeled because I don't remember one end being smaller than the other. The factory 850 manual doesn't say this and the one that does is the old Chiltons 750/850 pre MKIII. Did I just not see that one end was smaller in some way or is that book mixing info on years. It was in the section for "Cush drive"??? I'm hoping I don't need to take it apart again to check!!!

That information is only relevant to drum brake front wheels.

Normally manuals describe the overhaul of both the disc and drum front wheel assemblies in separate sections, however I've never (as yet) seen a copy of the Chiltons manual?

Thanks LAB. That is what I thought but wanted to be sure. As far as the book, it is a old (74?) small hard back and I could be wrong I'll check when I get home. I think it's Chilltons. Thanks again.
