hi all in the process of renewing forks with seals and bushings so while i got the front off i want to clean up rim, hub ,spokes blasted rotor and cleaned up caliper.Whats a good way to polish up the hub and spokes without dismantling. Hub aint to bad a little dull spokes are dull and chaulky can these be cleaned or mybe painted. Is there a trick to bring back a lustre. the rim is nice and shiny want the rest to match . Any magic cleaner .Thanks M.C.

Never had any success cleaning oxide from spokes, I gave up years ago and now fit stainless spokes at every opportunity.

spokes

Hi MC
I am with Cash.
I was told many years ago that spokes were zinc coated. Once corroded or you polish them enough to get through the outer coating, its all up!
To much work.

You have your marching orders concerning the spokes.

That will get you to the only point where you can possibly do a decent job polishing the hub: BARE.

cleaning spokes and hub

I used the extension tool for a dremil with some autosol and about 12 hours of polishing. Looks great, not perfect. Good if you want to ride but not for show.

front end clean-up

well i gave it a shot scocth brite pads , steel wool, wirebrush on a die grinder on the spokes spent a saturday morning but it came out decent not for show but acceptable .Had some purple metal cleaner that worked great on the hub the out side edges were hard reaching in between the spokes witha rag to polish . Sliders buffed up like new .Need to find a long extention for the die grinder would of made it alot easier. New cleaned and painted rotor new pads buffed and polished caliper mounted a avon roadrider tire.now just waiting for seals and bushing kit to R+R forks and slip on some new gaiters and reassemble. Then i can spin her around and start on the rear wheel .Shes coming along little by little. oh yeah and alot of elbow grease! M.c.
