Does anyone know the outer and inner length for the front brake cable on a 1969 Commando with semi western bars, part # 061041, I get it to roughly 38'' outer, thanks David

Neither Venhill cable worked for me. In fact I'm still searching, hard to find without the stupid switch. If you come up with anything, PLEASE update here. I've switched to Euro bars in the meantime.

Have you tried to find a kit to make up a custom cable to fit your bike ... maybe a forum member with same setup could measure their cable inner and outer and you work from that ...

The Venhill description reads:

"750 Models with twin leading shoe front brake 06-2491 | Heavy duty spec | Without switch | Outer 972mm (38 1/4") nose to end of adjuster | Clearance wire fully tightened L/nut to centre hole of clevis @ 190mm (7 1/2")"

So you can make any length cable you like as long as the inner is 190mm longer than the outer. Or alternatively measure your existing cable and see what the difference in length is. Then either make one up yourself if you feel confident, or get Venhill (or similar) to make you one.

Cheers,

cliffa.

I'm lucky there's a guy up the road that makes cables, throttle, clutch, brake ect.

I ordered the standard length, 56" if I recall correctly but found it too long looping over the instruments. I had it shortened it too fit properly.

I got mine from Joe Seifert Norton Motors or Andover Norton in the correct lenght without brake light switch. Installed a micro switch under the brake lever.

Yep did the same works a treat.

My parts book lists the 'S' front brake cable with stop switch as 061076. And the lengths I have for that cable are 29 5/8" for the housing and 39" for the cable length. Far as I know the 'S' was only made for the US and thus was the 'Export' model.

I have a spreadsheet that lists Norton and BSA/Triumph cable part numbers and inner/outer lengths if anyone wants it maybe I could post it somewhere? Don't know where I got it and thus cannot vouch for it's accuracy but I've checked it with my cables and it seems OK there.

Can I upload an .XLS file in a post?

061076 was also listed for the '69 'R' Type and (US?) Fastback. The 'USA ONLY' reference was due to that cable having the brake light switch.

Probably because of the 'Western (Export) Bars' too.
