Hello all, I'd like to give my Featherbed/Commando the 'Francis Beart pale green' color.
Does somebody know a colorcode number (RAL) for this pale green ?
Or is it just 'a' pale green.....?
I've tried to find the answer on this forum but could not, sorry! for if it's there somewhere already...
Thanks, Vincent

Hi Hobot, thanks for the pic and the link, but no clue to the color's name yet. Anyone ?

Vincent

I'm sure there was an article in 'The Classic Motor-Cycle' (or was it 'Classic Racer' ?)many years ago which stated that Beart used a UK Ford car colour. It certainly looks like the green that I remember seeing on Mk1 Consuls and suchlike. Presumably a Ford club could provide a 1950s colour chart .

That looks to be a US Ford colour. I don't think that the 'Dagenham Dustbins' had such bright colours.

I had a 1953 Consul that was green, but it was quite a bit darker than your example. Unfortunately, it was long before I could afford to take color photos!

Thanks! that's it ! Ford Ludlow Green.
Google that and the first picture you get is a Francis Beart Norton ! (on my Google anyway, dunno if that's universal, should be...)
Thanks again 79x100 and all others.

Vincent.

Mustve bought a bigger can of paint , this time .

The machine has had a lot of restoration superbly carried out by Patrick Godet of France.

Indead , does look like the Old Consuls .
Appears much lighter in the sun .

No doubt there was a referance in a old issue of MotorCyle . :?
Godet :

Frenchman Patrick Godet, the former FIM Coupe d'Endurance champion and world famous Vincent specialist.

Google Ford Ludlow Green here also shows a Beart Norton as the first pic.
Which is quite peculiar in some ways, you'd rather expect a Ford ..... ??

Some of the early google replies mention mist green in the same breathe, which looks to be a similar shade ?

Or, he had a mate who worked in the spray shop of the Ford Motor company :?: :)

I think the colour was referred to as 'apple green', in the book about Beart. But that was probably just a convenient description used by the author.

I know, very dumb.....I try to put a pic of my Featherbed candidate for Ludlow green here but no luck.
I see a button 'Img' that says 'insert image' when I stand on it, but when clicked I cannot get an image inserted in this post, how?

You have to insert the URL of the image, either from another website or from your flickr or photobucket account, like so:

The pictures above are from my photobucket account. With an photobucket image, the img.../img code is already there, so you don't need to click on the img button. Just copy and paste. Try the 'preview' button before submitting to ensure you've done it right.

I think some of the design was silly, but they are still a bloody nice motorcycle. When I see a good one it does my heart good - probably a nostalgia kick, but I believe we saw the best of bikes . I think the new commando has gained a lot but lost something. The old British bikes have soul. I've had a lot of tr iumphs during my lifetime and know their limitations too. I'd still like to own a pristine 1963 Bonneville to ride around our town and make the kids jealous.

I don't ever drink beer, but I agree with your comment. If you are going to do something with motorcycles, don't put it off. Buy the good jigger and enjoy it, you are a long time on the wrong side of the grass. I think back on my life, and I'm happy about a lot of my achievements. I have a couple of regrets, one is that I did not do a lot more road racing, the other one is the reason that I didn't.
