Hi All.
I'm having trouble with the review of motorcycle (the italian MOT).
The italian MOT Offices  search the numbers printed on the frame neck.
My bikes have all the frame numbers printed on the VIN plate only.
Where can I find documentation to bring to attest to what has been said?
Ciao

Hi Les,
thank you.
I dont need the records that i already have from NOC but some publictions/documents/etc. to show to the italan MOT offuces that the Norton Commando didnt have the frame numbers stamped on the eck but only on the VIN plate.

But do you know what the Italian MOT authority would accept as proof?
I suggest you find out if they would accept a statement or declaration issued either by the VMCC or NOC (or Andover Norton) stating that Commandos did not have serial numbers stamped directly onto the frame during the period in question?

Hi Les.
May be yes.
I will ask to NOC and Andover.
Thanks.

The simplest solution would be to stamp the number on the frame if that's what they want to see.

Hi Les,
yes is the simplest solution but, sorry, if they was not marked at that time, i will not mark now!
I am looking for the answers of Norton Andover and NOC that will sent to the furious italian offices.
Then, i will remember i am a lawyer!.

Piero,

Perhaps show them the information in one or two well known Norton books like Roy Bacon's 'Norton Twin Restoration' or it may also be mentioned in an official Norton Workshop manual. It's not a legal document but if you can show them that this information is widely known and written about Commandos they may accept it. You might also ask Andover Norton to write an official letter on their headed paper.

All the best with this

Ho Dave.
I will show the official letter i have received from Andover and from NOC.
I hope these letters can be enough!
Thanks.

Piero,

I had similar issues registering my '75 Ducati, which had been a race bike from new. the guy from the DVLA insisted the number was supposed to be stamped on the headstock, even though they never were.

In the end he just gave up and gave me the registration.

A bit frustrating that it's our responsibility to educate them, when they're the inspecting authority, and therefore should have the relevant expertise!

Rant over.

Good luck with your authorities!
