Fork width

I seem to remember reading about a difference in fork width between early and late Commandos. Most of my bike is a '68. The stanchion to stanchion inner width is 6 inches. So my questions are 1) Is there a difference in fork/triple tree width (the axle seems to carry the same part number through the years) and 2) if so, do I have early or late forks?
Thanks, Brendan

The change in fork width occurred in 1964 before the Commando was introduced. No further changes were made during Commando production.

However, early Commandos had atlas like yokes, then there was a 750 Commando version, then there were the 850 type yokes, and then the 850 Mk3 yokes.

You'd hope and imagine yours would be correct for the year, since changing them brings no readily apparent advantages.
