Hi all,

I ordered the Lansdowne Fork Damper Kit and am thinking it would be a good time to rebuild the front forks.

Would like info on the best kit or parts supplier in the USA.

I see "leakproof" seals in some kits and not others. Is there a preference here? Better quality seals, etc.

Thanks,

Dennis

Some of the leak proof seals can have excess stiction.
I got an Andover Norton (Old Briits ?) rebuild kit and new stanchions along with Lansdowne inserts, the quality seems very good and is a complete kit for the most part.
The only thing if stanchions are replaced is the spacer bush is not in the kit so it needs to be checked internally so there is no chance of damage to the new parts (stanchion surface) on reuse.

Clubman Racing Accessories also do a kit which might be the Andover Norton version, who knows.
They also list a longer top bush but you have to wonder what it is as with the stock spacer fork travel would be reduced.
The whole fork internal thing seems to be a mystery with no real answer that I have found to date.
Maybe this extended top bush is used without the stock central spacer.

Guide (Upper Bronze) Bush Upgrade - One of the errors in the description of the operation of the Norton forks in the Commando Workshop manual tells how the upper fork bush covers the larger of the two holes in the fork stantion as the forks are near full extension, slowing fork action and preventing the forks from "topping" out. This never happens because the bushing is to short to reach the hole before the forks are fully extended. We now offer a pair of longer bushing that greatly reduces topping and also supplies additional support to the stantions. To prevent increasing "stiction" the center section of the bushings are relieved to provide only approx. the same contact area as the originals. (A rebuild kit as above but with the extended bushings will be available shortly) #N020 - $34.95

Hi, I like the idea of PEEK bush's, strong and stable with VERY low cof. Ebay as some cheap off cuts, just require some one handy with a centre lathe.
I know a guy put 10% slick 50 - 90% sae 10 in his forks...he was over the moon with their smooth action. Slick is teflon ptfe? so must help?
Just watch for wear in the slider..it's the differance between excellent and rubbish.....your dampers are going in the post this week. thanks

Time Warp,

Thanks for the info...exactly what I was looking for.

John,

Not sure about those bushes needing to be machined. I do not have my metal shop set up yet. I have a mill and lathe in storage, but shop is not done yet. Wanted to get the forks done to have one thing off my checklist :D Would love to fine tune the forks but hoping just a rebuild will suit with your new dampers in there. Not a race bike...will be a rider for an old man...me :D
