Looks like my forks are pitted and have to change the fork tubes and seals in order to get a safety. Also need to change the head bearing. Not something I've attempted before but ready to give it a shot. Saw a Fork Tube Puller Tool for British bikes and was wondering if it is worthwhile purchasing?
 
Rusty stanchion tubes can be a bugger to crack loose out top yoke and yoke heat can help but one of those tasks you do not force yourself by getting sufficient hammer and wood block or heavy leather to Whack caps that are screwed out above yoke a good ways but still enough threads engaged to take what may be required on this particular Commando worship resurrection ritual. Once stanchions out clean em and roll them against each other to plainly see if any bend to matter enough to measure.
 
You just need a BFH to knock the tubes out of their taper fit in the top clamp and a pipe wrench or something similar to unscrew the collars from the sliders.
 
OUuuuuu, the seal collars, ugh had blocked that pain part out. I had tried srap wrenches that broke straps or just slipped. The first time off in a long time could take a freaking metal mangling pipe wrench but usually I get em with thick cow hide leather and *water pump* pliers whose size and jaw can open 6 inches. Another manhood tester for me to get as mean as it take yet not take the finish off something but sometimes ya must. These first in a long time tasks has left me with a psour taste for restoring.

Make sure to protect you instruments in case you slip.
 
Duh ** Clocks should be removed then cap bolts threaded back in enough to take the caveman brutal ritual on long time mated pipes in yokes. I did not remove my clocks putting on winter fairing mounts and one of the mounts bend points contacted speedo glass just as I bumped it a bit to move clink, ughhhh more Commando worship rituals with no promise of pleasant after life. Part of my manhood testing beside the mood swings of harder and harder hammering is trying not to injure more than already is. Private contacts tell me of having to sawsall through things, drill out studs, torch cut off or leave pipe wrench scars, ugh.


Oh yeah unless you have gone completely through loom > expect your helpful hammering and handling to jar Lucas gremlins to leak smoke out unseen.
