it would be of interest if anyone knows the thread diameter and pitch for the collar that hold the fork tube seal in place. Of coarse i just finished putting them back together and spend a whole lot of time using very undesirable language, and these thing just don't press in easily.

so what method works for you?

thanks

Either use an old bush, as Gortnipper says, to seat the new bush and the seal, or else a parallel punch tapping slowly around the perimeter. The threaded collar will then screw in nicely. I normally tighten the last 1/4 turn by clamping the collar in a large vise and using the axle through the fork leg as a bar to tighten everything up snugly.

I use a piece of good old PVC pipe, I glue a cap on the end to tap on. If you can't seat the seal without breaking the PVC you have other problems.

Best

thanks for the suggestion using the top bushing, i was trying to use the old seal, will find me an old bushing and a piece of pvc pipe to fit over it

You really dont need a piece of pipe added too it. The neck is perfectly adequate to grasp.
