Flyscreen on a Sport?

My Black SP is about to go in for its 500 mile service, where I'm considering having a flyscreen fitted. Mainly for looks (though its a pity its not colour matched), but also because at higher speeds the the wind can be tiring with the upright riding position.

My question is does the small flyscreen do much? And will it divert the wind blast up into my face /neck, something I've experienced with an old BMW R90S.. makes 60 feel like 90, I'm 5' 10'' btw.

Finally I was told one reason its so expensive, is that the headlamp mount has to be changed for one with the extra lugs to mount the screen.

I have the screen on my CR but I can't give an opinion...as I've never run it without, however, I suspect it'll make little difference as your bar position makes you sit higher so will be putting you in the airflow regardless.

They look cool though!

I was lucky enough to get a second hand one. Personally I would say they have close to zero effect on airflow and are purely for looks. I know some folks have fitted the Triumph Thruxton type, but the Norton one looks very good imho.

Never thought of it, haven't fitted a fairing to the Manx yet. So it has a flyscreen. But thinking of it, yes it does makes sense. Never noticed any wind blast even at high revs in top gear. But you think of lots of other things when riding on a race track.

I did notice recently that the TVS screen is VERY different to the Donnie screens. Totally different shape. I suspect neither make much of a difference but the TVS one is much lower and smoother so will have even less of an impact

Have to agree - the flyscreen has little or no impact although, at speed, it may deflect some airflow onto the upper body taking a little weight off the wrists (mainly on the CR). Negligible at best though.

A few have fitted bikini fairings, but most look pretty fugly - ‘eye of the beholder’ though I guess.

The Omega Racing aluminium Thruxton fairing has been fitted to the 961 and looks pretty awesome to my eye. No doubt this provides some protection but again, is more for the aesthetic.

Others have toyed with fitting the genuine Thruxton fairing. This can be done but it’s an expensive proposition (below is a mock-up)

Difficult to find a stylish, cost effective fairing of any type for the 961 - for those that want a bit of protection whilst touring. A worthwhile undertaking though for a bike that trades on its looks, if anybody’s cracked it………?

Thanks for the replies, think I'll fit one just for the looks. A half fairing would work with the 961 if it has clip ons. I suspect a Ducati 900SS Desmo fairing or may be on from an older Guzzi race bike would work.
