Anyone seen anything like this before? Did you install it?

It's already bugging you or you wouldn't ask. The only way you know it was a bad idea is if it blows out. Then you are gonna be angry with yourself for using it. If you can't return it, I would save it for emergency purposes, like when you might be able to save the world if you can just get the Commando to run before sunrise.

That looks kind a like one Trixie blew right through, it had copper foil crimped on paper like composite. Yours looks like steel foil folding over instead of the solid steel ring of real Anover Flamering. About 4-5 yr ago reports of poor flamering type gaskets failure showed up on NOC and BI lists. Fix em to ride em then fix em form riding em.

"I would not use it, unless you really like doing it twice, Jim"

Yeah, just looking for a little re-assurance I wasn't being TOO damned picky. Seems like lately, poor parts prevail. :x

I had one last summer I got which was a Andover/Norton flame ring and the ring was missing about 3/8" of the fold over ring thingy on one side.
I know what you mean, "Do I put this on and take a chance?"
It's the worst thing when you can't just go down to the shop where you bought it from and return it. Instead you have to ship it back and exchange it and then tell them to inspect it before shipping it.
I always keep a couple new spares on hand like cables, gaskets.
