Blimey what a ball ache those clips are. The inner carb screws are a walk in the park by comparison.

Is there a knack?

I swap between a Corbin Gunfighter and a dual seat - so fitting and removing is a real PITA.
I decided to do it differently and made a pillion handle from 4mm sailing cord inside a piece of 3/8" rubber oil line. I used self-welding tape over the frame bindings.
Now I just leave it on - it (firmly) slides fore and aft depending what seat I'm using.
Wish I'd done it years ago.
I'll post a photo when I have time.
Cheers

Which grab rail, Roadster, Interstate or later universal?

Which clips, those with the captive nut or the later type without?

I have both Roadster and (currently running) Interstate into the captive nut clips.

Bending them sufficiently to get the thread of the bolt started is where my problem is. There's little to no room to get a suitable clamp in there.

Yes, personally I'd use the later type or remove the captive nuts and maybe use longer set screws to engage with the separate nuts.

These clamps are one of the cheesier pieces of "engineering" on the bikes. They make even the crappy Craven mounting hardware look ok.

I’m guessing that the clips were off-the-shelf hardware items and the grab rails were designed to use the clips.
As stated, “cheesy” (cheap), and they still didn’t save the brand..
