First time in 29 years

Yesterday I finished putting the final pieces on the 72 Intestate and was looking forward to testing it out on the road. The thing would not start. Woke up this morning and decided to check the carbs again, this time I followed Busman's instructions and started from scratch. It fired on the first kick. So now I am happy to say the bike was back on the road for the first time in twenty nine years. Thanks to all who had any advice or input along the way. I am sure It won't be the last.

Congratulations. I know the feeling well, when a piece of metal has another life thanks to your patience...

Great feeling, isn't it?

I recently got mine up and running after a hiatus of 18 years. Kids, work, house, etc., all were/are more important but my son expressed an interest and is currently working on a Bonneville causing me to drag out the Commando.

Anyway, the smile on my face on the first ride back on the road was ear to ear. I also flashed back a lot.

Nothing better than firing up a bike that you have labored over for a long time. Nut and bolt it after every ride until you are confident that it is sound. Double and triple check that the oil is pumping the way it should and enjoy the ride.
