Thanks for the link. I had to wonder looking at the photos what the new tanks are made from...and whether there would be a chance in hell that you could fit one on to a vintage bike.

Not sure if the new folks stayed with the original plan, but Kenny is still holding the #1 prototype tank for me, along with a few other bits including a set of wheels and boat-tail seat. It's a plastic tank made by Acerbis, and is covered with a 'glass shell that gets painted.

It will fit the original commando frame, but needs custom fabbed brackets.

Looks like there were some hot chicks there, but need better pics to know for sure lol

The new Norton was on display at Mosport for the VRRA vintage races, they even ran it on the track and we all got a chnce to hear it running. First impressions are it is a gem, very well made, the expected price is around $26K CAD for the 961 SE (with carbon fiber wheels). The only downside, it is too quiet, the snort is gone.

PS The guy in the white T-shirt standing behind the bike bought one on the spot :D

I like the look of it. :D

If I had loads of spare cash, I'd have a serious look at buying one.................but I don't, and so I won't. :(

I think that's what stops most of us! :( But of course I wouldn't sell an original for a retro....would have to have one of each.

Pah!
I'd still buy a K1300r, faster, cheaper. Still don't have enough cash to buy one of those either.

Thing is going fast is (note present tense) for yesterday when it was possible to do it and in the event of an arrest, it was merely a fine, never any jail time or the threat of losing the right to ride or worse, the ride itself. Going down the road in style, that is what these were made for.

OK, I know it is a personal thing, but everyone on here owns a real commando, why would you want a new version that probably really doesn't perform vs the cost. I get it when someone doesn't own or ride original bikes and possibly buys retro to recapture something lost in youth, but I would spend the money on an MV Brutale for performance that would no doubt kill the new "commandette". As far as having that much extra cash laying around, it'll never happen for me, but in fantasy land I buy a Vincent, not a Norton knock off.

Because...

It's a Norton Commando.

And....

It's hand built, Made in England, Gorgeous, and up to modern standards.

Does that answer it? They could have done it on the cheap and had it made in asia. They could have cut corners and kept the price down. But they didn't. They are doing it right. Why would anyone ride a vintage commando when they could ride a vintage honda?

Because....

It's a Norton Commando.

Are those oil stains I see on the left hand exhaust? Nice touch, preserving the leaky primary.

like I said it's a personal thing. Guess we'll see how they hold up down the road good luck to them.

You are probably right. New production motorcycles don't leak oil. A lot of old production motorcycles didn't leak oil. Those of British origin being the exception.

I cant afford a new one but I wouldn't rule one out down the road secondhand.Plus the advantage of seeing how they are shaping up mechanically wise etc
