Mrs R & I out for a run on the back roads to attend a Guzzi meeting in Central Scotland today, our weather is holding up so well worth getting the Commando out. It stopped around a mile from the meeting (maybe in a huff as it knew there wouldn't be any Nortons there) The stoppage was caused by a broken wire on the Boyer pick up, luckily a kind passer by stopped and got me some tools to effect a repair, I'd forgotten my Swiss army knife which could have solved the problem! Hopefully this will be the only unplanned maintenance stop this year! It ran sweet as a nut on the way home.

First breakdown this year!

The shame!
First breakdown this year!

Yes I know, I should have done it better the last time!

If you do not upgrade the terminations and the wires of the boyah then can expect this again or carry spares. Stopped on road meeting new people d/t electrical issues is a fairly large part of me and my buddy C'do hobby experiences.

I'd replace with some 'Jap' bullets. Good insulation and support for the cable.
Any Scottish rallies in the pipeline for this year, Gino?

Simon.

Seeing these pictures just got myself and wife talking about shipping a Norton over and driving about England-Scotland . Possibly a pre-sale and final delivery to buyer kind of thing. Love the mirror on the right-side ! The bike looks like a creation of several different years.

Well done. I had both the common Boyer glitches happen on mine at different times. Never died completely though and I made it home. Cannot remember which one, but the backfire scared the socks off me. I thought I was being shot at. Need to find some nice small brass machine screws, nuts, and washers to do the circuit board connections and then you should be good to go for a long while. I have had no trouble since. The Boyer seems to be a good piece of gear. I forgot now, did you say it was a Boyer.

I ran a Boyor for 33 years and never had any problems with brocken wires in the pick up, had good insulation on the wires that went through the hole and bullets connectors, my mate is still running my old Boyor on his Norton, he had a few issues with it and changed the pick up and still had the problem but when I looked at it found he didin't have it earthed right, he didn't follow the wire diagram right  .

I thought I was being smart and modified my boyer by routing two copper wires (insulated) across the front of the board to a double screw in type connector. The timing was all over the place and gave me no end of problems until I returned it to something close to normal. I reckon the two wires were picking up some spurious signal and skewing the timing.

Hi Simon, yes Applecross is on as is our "borders" weekend, I'll post the dates when finalised, plenty other stuff planned but mainly 2 day events, we'll put them all in RH when we finalise them.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I know the shortcomings of the Boyer set up, it was in fact lazyness on my part that it failed, I suffer from motorcycle maintenance lazyness , I often say to my myself "I'll do that later" and end up fixing it at the side of the road, stupid I know but its got me this far
:D :D
BTW Torontonian Scotland is great motorcycling country, selling a bike here would be easy enough, if you need advice on where to go PM me and I can help, was in your neck of the woods in September on a bike tour, Niagra specifically.

Serious funnage , Scots fer' us. Right now will settle for Fergus and Elora Ontario, Canada. Future stuff n' thanks.
