Fireflake Emerald Green

Often spoken about in hushed terms, but rarely sighted.....

Now that bike has Norton logo mufflers.

Either they are older than discussed, or this bike isn't quite as original as claimed ??

It must have some new parts on it, rims, exhaust. Nearly everything looks right except there is something wrong with the decal on the left panel, it's not angled right. The tank decals look misplaced a bit to me too. Not sure about that 'Made in England' decal on the rear guard, but the guard looks right, as does the chain guard, that just looks too new to me.

It tastes like tangy mint to me, cool. Put this one in the photo collective too please.

Normally the color was in the gelcoat. There was no paint. It was common for the decals to fall off on their own and be replaced or not by owners.

Never saw one that color but pretty nice!

When the decals wore off my FF Blue fiberglass tank, there were rather obvious marks where they were. I don't think the colour was 'normally in the gelcoat', as far as I know it just was for the fiberglass tanks. Seemed like there was a rather thick coat of clear on it too, but when I sanded off the black paint I put over my gel coat, nearly all the colour came off, but I could still see where the decals were. The decals were also just stuck on, not covered with anything. It's hard to tell what this ebay item really is, but it sure looks pretty original, it would be nice to see it in person, that would be telling, at least to me.

I just got word from a forum member that this bike is known to be pretty much original. One can question the mileage and why the engine was overhauled though. It'll be interesting what it finally goes for. I'd give 5K almost sight unseen, Charlotte is only about 5-6 hours away from me. Don't need another money hole though. It would make a nice pair, Green Roadster and Blue S. Get the bong out.

Damn DogT, You and that Bong....those cracks continue to bust me up though!! LOL When I first saw the ad on E-bay for this emerald green I thought it was a very cool color indeed. My brothers bike had the fire flake blue on his '70 750 'S' and I used to think it was a beautiful clear coat on a beautiful color but now know it to be the gel coat for the fiberglass tank and side covers. Hello,

I own this Norton and live in Charlotte (home tomorrow and Monday) if anyone wants to come by and have a look. If not, I ride a 74 Commando if you'll be in the area and want a riding partner. I'm sellling this to be able to afford to ride the 74  Give me a call 704-502-9451 or email me peter.beagen@gmail.com with any questions.

I thought this too, until I saw an original 'S' tank in the flesh recently - it's definitely paint.
The same guy bought a couple of 'S' sidepanels from RGM when they were having a clear-out some years ago; one in FF Royal Blue, the other in FF Orange. Both superb colours, but the finish was only so-so (by modern 2-pack standards).

I was interested to see if the Royal blue is anything like mine, but unfortunately I couldn't do a side-by-side comparison as I was in the car at the time :(
However, I am content that the blue I used is VERY close; just need to go back on the bike and get a side-by-side photo. Best of all it had the 'right' sparkle', so not very big flakes.

Back to that Fireflake Emerald Green...

For the next project  (it says 'mrgreen'!)

Cue Dr. Evil 'Mwaa-haa-haa-haa' etc.

I look at Dog T's Avatar and it reminds me of the guys I thought were cool when I was a schoolkid... now where are those Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers comics?

Great minds think alike ?!

P.S. I have seen a fireflake fiberglass sidecover, and it did look like the flakes were in the gelcoat ?
PPS. Can you apply gelcoat to steel sidecovers ???

Oh yes its as green sparkle spacey as the '60's!
One custom job that sucked me into it in the 60's was mid night blue with diffraction grating rainbow flakes with gold dust in deep clear.
