The nicer bike of the 2 has been completely rebuilt and was sprayed with oil before it was put aside in 1998....

I see they are on the trailer so you obviously bought them, good score. not to keen on the covered in oil thing.

Hi

Guys who buy old bikes and do not intend to do any thing to them often cover them with diesel , or smear them with an oil soaked rag. It is fairly common to protect them from corrosion.the more particular owners used Vaseline , common with soldiers leaving for WW2.
Like the look of them you've got to be pleased!

Good luck with them

Have to get rid of something..Running out of room...

You could see if the guy that owns this place has any spare room, apparently he has a Norton or two himself!

After getting the bikes home couldn't resist cleaning and waxing front fender and wheel to see what was under the coating of oil....Nice shiny chrome...Not a speck of rust...Glad the PO did it...

Re; “Nice shiny chrome...Not a speck of rust...”

Of course not, anyone in the Chrome plating industry will tell you that chrome plating is porous.
An old friend of mine I once knew a collage who, every year would spray the underside and boxes of his old car with a combination of old car oil thinned with paraffin, the oil eventually started to come through into the carpets, but it kept the rust at bay :!: :o

Just hiding the tweeked front forks and fender  . That is why I got it cheap. should be back on the road in a few weeks hopefully.

The motor in my 1967 was rebuilt in 1988 and only 70 miles were put on the bike...PO said it would smoke when warm, so I decided a topend tear down was in order...I found that mating surface on cylinder to head was warped not allowing the head gasket to seal correctly...I also found that the pistons PO had used were prone to falling apart, so got new pistons and rings..Just checked the head and all looks fine there..Will be putting topend back on bike this evening....Waiting on a couple of chains from Andy for this bike....Shouldn't be long now...

I too saw the pair in the trailer and drew the same conclusion. When my brother called me up to go "look" at an Atlas in Phoenix, I said, well, we're bringing your truck right? Why? We're just looking. I said that going to "look" at motorcycles is like going to "look" at puppies. Its not a matter of if, its a matter of how many you come home with. Yes, he bought it and we loaded it into the truck… Good on ya for scoring the Pair of Atlas's, or it is Atli?

Picked up my freshly painted tank today..Real happy with the results.[imgFinally Found an Atlas or Two][/img]..Picked up seatpan from the powder coater and going to install the new foam and cover from Leightons in a few days...I just finished pressing new bushings in the swingarm...Coming together fairly well

Looks very smart. Cherry Red ?

Tell us about how you did this.
Never tried it, yet, but understood it was a bear to get it apart ?
Some folks use the word impossible here...

The color is a Porsche red...very bright...

Taking the bushings out of the swingarm was done by a shop closeby...They have a press with lots of power and it brought them right out...After that I cleaned the tube where bushings go as good as I could...I had guy doing powdercoat, beadblast inside of the tube...I put the new bushings and spacer in with a piece of all thread and a couple of sockets and nuts...They went in very easily after the tube was cleaned ....
