I finished up the restoration on my 69 N15CS today and took if for a ride. The pipes P11 pipes I customized to fit are loud enough to get everyone's attention. I am having a blast with it so far and riding season is just starting here in sunny Arizona.

Very nice, be a shame to get it dirty, you done a great job and why not have a blast with it, thats whats it all about, for riding.

Well done

Very cool. Only the 2nd N15 I've seen with modified P11 pipes. Not easy!

Thanks guys. I followed your advice on the pipes grandpaul. Not easy but it can be done. I made my own rear mounting brackets that I am watching closely for cracking as I put more miles on the bike. I think they will work just fine. Now I'm ready to attend some shows and hear "is that a Commando?" over and over haha.

Very nice pair of twins!

I bet each of your sets are loud enough to get the attention of Johnny Law as well!

Grandpaul - I very much like your gentle nod to a silencer.

That was a client build and he specified P11 style pipes with mufflers.

All else is very near original spec.

So, Matt, who cut & welded your pipes, and are there any pix of the work as it was underway?

I had to make 2 cuts to each pipe, then re-orient the parts, then the welder did the rest.

I cut the pipes myself in just one location you can see in my pics. I wish I documented this better. I figure I took out at least 3" or more on each pipe and rotated the back half until it fit properly. I went to a local metal supply store and got two small pieces of tubing (for free!) that had the same OD as the ID of the P11 pipes. These were installed underneath the joint to be welded to add some strength. After I had them where I wanted, I tacked them in place and made a rear mounting bracket. Then took both pipes to a muffler shop to have them finish weld and grind the joints smooth. After that it was off to chrome. I am very happy with the way they turned out.

According to Look, it is looking awesome. But I don't like to customize it to fit are loud enough to get everyone's attention

That's gorgeous, great job. I've wondered if internal baffles could be fitted to straight pipes? I don't like the low mounted stock N15 silencers at all, and nothing I've seen looks as good as those. Been seeing some gorgeous N15's lately and it's very inspiring.

Nice job!!

I think what you will hear a few times is "I've never heard of a Norton." ;)

Nice thing about car/bike shows is the crowd is usually older guys reliving their youth through hot rods. I've won a couple of trophies with a nowhere near stock P11 in the back of my 1965 El Camino. It gets some attention. "I've never seen one of those."

I commend you on having the balls to run those pipes open. Gotta be a head turner.

Thanks guys. This post was from 7 years ago when I got the bike. I still have it and have lived in 3 different states now with no issues from police about it being too loud. You can cruise mildly without it being obnoxious. If you give it more than 1/2 throttle it gets loud. 7 years ago when I got the bike I was 25 years old and enjoyed the loud pipes a little more back then. I have been thinking about installing baffles at the end of the pipes.
