Fern Winter storm 2026 (aka "Stahmageddon")

They don't make them like they used to, The 7Hp Tecumseh gets the job done and starts well with the pull cord. IT has the heavy duty "collector" gear box and the blower assembly. These models have interchangeable attachments for different purposes. Approx 1977 Vintage Ariens Sno-Thro, so it has seen lots of snow.

My neighbor had the mower attachment, and made a sulky to ride his fat arse around on it. 🏁

This morning I will drive from Benalla to Wangaratta for a 9.30 AM hearing test. On the way up there, the weather will not be too hot. But by lunchtime, it will probably be 45 degrees Celsius in Wangaratta. I hope I can find some shade when I park my car. If it snowed here, it would have snowflake's hope in hell of surviving for 2 minutes. At least there does not seem to be any active fires in our area. Where I live, in October it usually feels as though somebody has turned the blast furnace on.

I don't think we've had snow like that over here since I was a toddler.
I remember sitting in the departures lounge at Chicago O'Hare a few years ago looking at a row of 20+ snow shovel tractors all lined up as the snow came in. We got away OK, but a couple of hours later It all got shut down.
That and 5 degrees Fahrenheit at Minneapolis in November made me realise what a warm country I live in, even if it is generally a bit damp.

The 'beast from the east' in March 2018? Hit my part of the country quite hard. I had some garden landscapers doing some work, and the weather was atrocious - had to admire them for not abandoning the job for a few days. There were lanes still blocked with snow a week after the snow fell, and the local river (the Wye) froze over.

Isn't it the case that in the US householders have a legal duty to clear snow from pavements? Not so in the UK.

We seem to avoid the worst (and the best:rolleyes:) weather in the Morecambe Bay area, and any snow we've had has never stayed for more than a couple of days. My driveway has a 50yd up to 1 in 4 gradient, and I can only remember being trapped for one day when the salt I put down was overwhelmed, but it thawed off the next day.
I remember talking to my opposite number in Illinois who said they get 'kinda pi**ed off with it after a couple of months'.

Long ago we thought the cold weather would keep the riffraff out. Sadly...not so.

Best leave the snow shovelling for the young lads then. Hope you are keeping pain free

Sorry to hear that Craig. 😞

In the city, it's required to clear the SIDEWALK in front of your property.

That's it.

Other than that, our tax money pays to plow the road.

No sidewalks. No streetlights. No city water. No city sewer.
Kinda Peaceful.
