Hey there,
I am scraping the paint off my swap-meet find (fiberglass fastback tank) and there are bondo filled dimples - what year would this tank be?
I assume early... but early round tank badges don't look like they are recessed - what was the dimple for - the green blob?

Any thoughts...

Thanks
Phil

I believe the early Silver & Black badges did fit in shallow recesses.

Yep, It's an early '68 tank with recesses for the plastic badges. The badges often fell out after the adhesive dried up and Norton converted to a smooth tank and tail in late '68 or '69 so many just bondo'ed up the recess when they lost the badge and added the "Norton" decal.

Good reproductions of those badges are hard to find. Lot's of bad ones tho.

Thanks,
Funny what hides underneath 8 coats of paint! Sunset red, Gold, Red, Black with thick coats of primer.

It looks to me like the PO might have attacked the dimples with a grinder, the edges are pretty uneven and chewed looking  ... can anyone give me a measurement on the badge size? I would like to just polish it up and slap on some badges if I can (it will get a dose of Caswell tomorrow..) .
Phil
