That scenario happens more that just my one time. I have received several heads over the years that had been installed and run just long enough to find one cylinder had low compression -due to a slightly bent valve. I actually have a pretty good assortment of slightly bent new valves that were obviously bent during installation. Jim

I've never had a pushrod hang up on the edge of a lifter. But I did have a wad of tissue (to keep dirt out) fall down into a pushrod tunnel and the extra lift bent a valve - that added a few new words to my vocabulary.

The stars have to be aligned just right for it to happen.

I have somewhere in my collection a lifter that obviously had run for many miles with the pushrod resting on the edge of the cup. It had created its own new cup where it had been riding. It never gave a problem that the owner was aware of. Jim
