Exhaust Down pipes, correct angle out of head

I can tell you that I just changed the head pipes on my 71. The ones I took off are gnarly enough that I am sure they are original. I got the replacements from a member here and they look exactly like the ones I took off so they may be OE as well, not sure. Here is a pic.

Armours refused to take my Victor Special high pipe header back, it was two inches too short, sent them pics and only got it must be your bike back as a reason. Got a pipe elsewhere and it fitted perfectly, still have the short one as luckily it will fit on a B44 engine in a C15 frame.

Something I heard a couple of decades ago regarding exhaust not fitting. If it doesn't fit, please lower your expecation. :(

Armours were good upto the late 90's when the old man retired, then on it was pot luck on the quality and fit. AN had new pipes in recently that no longer look like crash bars, not sure if they have sold them all yet.

I have several sets of old 750 pipes, and they are all tucked in. Try Norman White, he has his own version.

These look original also, with the correct angle out of head which go forward more rather than come straight out, as said, like crash bars.

These pipes were cut off...fastback or "R" pipes are about as long as regular pipes...upswept roadster pipes bend up right under the kick start/trans main shaft

Having owned commandos for a long time I can say 70 to 72 had kicked forward pipes on all upswept roadster.
Never seen kick-in on any 750 (though they might exist) or 850 interstate pipes or 850 roadster balanced pipes

Unless I am missing something they look like they have been angled in even further as there seems to be only one down tube.

Its been on my mind for a long time [ since I bought the 850 off Bob Nesbitt ] so whenever I see pictures from when these bike were born, I generally look closely at the exhausts. I have mostly seen these pipes. Incidentally, Bob told me the crew from Worlds Fastest Indian asked him to provide some sound track, so he said he belted my bike up and down the road at Seaview. He said afterwards, that when he saw the film, there were no Nortons in it. I certainly listened for the Norton sound but only heard Triumphs.

Re; “I certainly listened for the Norton sound but only heard Triumphs.”
Yes, and those twins sounded just like a V twin

Paul Bryant owner at Viking Exhaust in New Zealand makes the pre-72 750 'tucked in" headers. I have bought a set from him and they are top quality items that fit correctly as all his products do likewise.
