EV drawbacks

The part about little Johnny's Dad paying is what's wrong with the whole idea....
Today's 20,30 yo's haven't an accurate concept of cost.
JMWO
Hmmm.....looks like to me the so called "conspiracy theory" "Agenda 21" is playing out in real time now...its always been about "control"...create a "emergency" to control us all

This topic is too politically charged, but the bottom line remains the same:

EVs for novelty's sake is fine.

EVs to supplant ICEV is insanity, absurdity, folly, and IMPOSSIBLE. Even with amazing new technology breakthroughs, IT CANNOT BE DONE. Not even just in the US; ridiculous to think worldwide.

More R&D needed

Not in our lifetime, that’s for sure.

Without stating the obvious (even though I am... ooops!) it's all implemented by the political powers that be who, in the UK at least, only have their four years in the sun! So little (if any) accountability.
During that brief spell they can be all things to all men, appease the climate warriors, hand out public funds for 'research' purposes and keep industry ticking over. All very laudable until the backed horse turns out to be lame, by which time MP has retired to sunnier climes with a gold plated index linked pension....
(And still drives a gas guzzling Range Rover!!)

The UK government is depending on technology catching up within the next few years
With no more fossil burning cars after 2030 and no more bikes after 2035
Absolutely ridiculous
A couple of years ago I had a new neighbor move in
He said to me "oh I see you have a diesel car,are you not worried about the environment?"
It amazes me that people think they are saving the planet with an electric car
How do they think the electric is generated?

Forget how the electricity is generated (rational people ALL know it is lopsided toward oil, gas, and coal), the MANUFACTURING, MATERIALS, PROCESSES, AND TRANSPORTATION of all that is involved in manufacturing are ALL heavily petro-product involved, and will NEVER be "ecologically friendly" other than with token payments of "carbon credits" that only fund re-election of the people handing out "free" tax dollars.

Like I said, "too politically charged". But EVs, at their CORE, are indefensible as "ecologically friendly" on their face; NEVER MIND their life cycle cost!

Definitely my favourite of these clips…

I know I've mentioned this on here at least a couple of times but it's a subject close to my heart
A mate of mine is a bus mechanic and where he works the bus depot has changed to electric buses
They have had to go from 18 diesel buses to 24 electric and change the route because the electric buses can only do 83 miles
The cabling to the bus depot can't charge enough busses to keep them on the road
So they have a diesel generator that runs 24/7 so they can keep the buses charged !!

Realistically, though, how long will it take a bus to cover 83 miles? These must need charging at least once a day if not more? The logistics don't seem overly sensible....

Saw this today.... Not quite sure if they've done their sums correctly??
'The petrol version can travel around 400 miles on a full tank of petrol, which would cost around £50. '
???????????????

This may be the only "positive" thing to come out of this energy crisis
Pun intended !

As an RAC member, maybe they'll let me know where I can get a full tank of petrol for £50!!
Members discount??

Yes I think they got their sums wrong, or it’s a typo, but as an EV driving friend was telling me yesterday, it is true, it’s now tipped over to EVs being more expensive per mile than (the average) petrol car.

And that’s before the higher purchase price, the as yet unknown impact of battery life and replacement costs, and the fact that EVs have a higher tyre wear rate.

It will be interesting to see if that impacts sales. Of course, it shouldn’t make any difference if the (potentially flawed) reason is their ‘green’ credentials.

By coincidence I was talking to a guy at the local tyre centre with a V12 Daimler/Jag.
I assume he owns a Vincent BS too, as when I enquired how he got on with 'supermarket' fuel I was told it needed 'special' high octane petrol at £185 a fill up....
Price seems right for any petrol at the moment, just thought/expected he might be using an octane booster.

Don't forget the damage electric cars do to the road compared to fossil burners
As I understand it electric cars are a lot heavier than the equivalent petrol/diesel
So at the moment the "road fund license" is paid by the non electric car driving people even though they do less damage!
I don't know how much longer they will hold off with not charging electric cars the road fund license
Let's see

Not necessary IMO so long as he has reliable to access to Super Unleaded. At between 97 and 99 octane, super unleaded is good petrol.
